League’s 20th Birthday Celebrations Begin

Some more exciting changes were announced as part of the Leagues’ 20th birthday celebrations.

The first change for the League’s birthday has already happened – the move to The Deanery and bringing our home fields back into Swindon. The next exciting change is…..WE HAVE A NEW LOGO!

Our New Logo!

We wanted something that visually represented softball more than our old logo did, yet remained true to the original. We wanted to keep our colour scheme and also wanted a logo with a more friendly aspect ratio for displaying and printing. We love it – we hope you do too! Many thanks to our friends at local company Obladee for their help for making this happen.

We aren’t just stopping there. We have lots more in store, including one more to announce here. This year we are trying something new: we’re creating a new Development Division within the league!

2022 Swindon Softball League Structure

The Development Division will be ideal for beginners to learn the sport as they play, and for players who are still in their first few seasons to explore new positions on the field. It will also be a great place for any umpires-in-training. The Development Division will play on Monday evenings throughout the summer.

The Development Division will consist of four new teams, details of which will follow over the next few weeks

Over the long term, the aim is for the Development Division to build players and teams, and as this happens some will likely choose to progress on to…….

The Championship Division. This is where the competition for the title of Swindon Softball League Champions happens! The Championship Division will continue to play on Thursday evenings.

For 2022 specifically, the Championship Division will consist of current teams Aries, Jaguars, Las Panteras, Spitfires and a new team: ‘The Bomb Scratchers’. The Bomb Scratchers are, as their name suggests, a scratch team where players from the Development Division can try their hand at a higher level of play.

Our 20th year will be unfamiliar in many ways, but in others we aim to be consistent – we want to continue providing players with the competitive softball they love, help more people discover our sport, and continue to build a community that makes Swindon a better place to be.
