Firstball Tournament Action For Swindon Teams

Two Swindon Softball League Teams ventured to two different Firstball Tournaments this past weekend.

The Bombers headed to Cardiff for the Cardiff’s league first ever Firstball tournament, held on Saturday 23rd April and The Panthers headed to the long-running Bristol Firstball, on Sunday 24th April.

The Bombers had a good day overall, finishing top of their group undefeated. They started the day facing their (friendly) tournament foes the Bristol BAM! in the first game and secured their first ever tournament victory over them after an offensive onslaught in the first inning.

The Bombers beat a very inexperienced Cardiff Chaos team in the second game and pulled a draw from the jaws of defeat against a strong Valley Wet Sox team in the third and final group game.

Following a season of tournaments last year and training all over the winter, good, consistent batting and improved fielding saw the Bombers have their best game of the day in the Gold semi-final vs the Cardiff Red Sox and pull out a well deserved victory in a close game.

Sadly, the Bombers fell one run short in the final vs the Vandals from Bristol in the third close game in a row. This is the third tournament final defeat for the Bombers, who, if they continue the form they are on, should not have to wait too long for some champions silverware, though they did take home a nice runners-up trophy from the day.

The Panthers travelled to Bristol on Sunday 24th April to play in one of their regular early-season tournaments: Bristol Firstball. More details to follow…
