2023 End of season wrap up

Championship Division

The Championship Division was joined by new team Cubs this year and made up of four teams with the return of Panthers, Aries and Spitfires.

Congratulations to champions Panthers, consistently top of the league table with few defeats.

The Cubs were formed this year with a mix of Swindon and Oxford league players. They made their mark with strong plays beating the opposition and narrow loses landing them in 2nd place.

Aries started off the season with a few player changes. Welcoming new players to the team, once, solidified as a team the wins started to happen and gave the rest of the league competition to think about.

Spitfires stepped up their form this year giving the league some tight games. A memorable one against Panthers in which they put 19 runs in one innings against Spitfires. The team rallied together not letting Panthers add much more to their scoreline and got their runs going losing in the end 31-32 and showing how to come back fighting.

The last game of the season came down to an Aries and Spitfires playoff for 3rd place. Both teams went in with attitudes to win and played well. In the end the Spitfires got the win for 3rd place with strong fielding holding back the Aries runs.

Development Division

The 2023 season saw all 2022 Development teams return as Dodgers, Hawks, Hurricanes and Phoenix with new players welcomed into each. The division welcomed fifth team Centurions, made up of the Cirencester rugby team and family, who brought with them a new home ground for the league to play away games.

At the start of the season our coaches held training sessions in Cirencester introducing the game to the rugby team players. Centurions adjusted quickly to the new sport with formidable batting skills and team work. They were a good match for division and got a few wins under their belt, a very good first season show.

Hurricanes freshened up their logo and gave it their all, improving each game individually and a team. They were full of energy and wining spirit and put in a good effort over the summer.

Hawks were looking to take the division by storm again this year off the back of their success in 2022. They started strong and kept up their attitudes to have a good time on the field. Continuing to play well they were in it to win it, but it wasn’t to be this time around.

Phoenix started the season without a full squad and built up over the summer as new players joined the league. They struggled to score until the team was established towards the end, with their first win against Centurions, and holding a draw against a strong Hawks. As Phoenix start to settle in with their team mates and find their positions they could start strong next year.

The Dodgers came second last year and had the top of the table in their sights for this season. With their determination and focus on training to improve they made it to the top winning the majority of their games.
